The co-op team works hard to
keep the products you love coming in regularly. However, sometimes certain
foods are out of stock or unavailable from our suppliers. It may be due to
weather events locally, such as the recent floods and cyclones, or situations
happening internationally. The fact that we source our food ethically means
that we often cannot turn to another supplier, as big retailers or supermarkets
may be able to do. This is the beauty of shopping at the co-op: we know where
our food comes from and we accept the vagaries of food growing conditions.
Here are
a few examples: cows produce less milk in winter and chickens fewer eggs. The
Victorian floods destroyed the flax crop of our flaxseed oil supplier. And the
Bolivian drought has meant that red quinoa has been hard to get a hold of. There
has also been a surge in interest in coconut products – including "coconut
water" – which has meant there hasn't been enough coconut oil to go around.
We are constructing a sign in
the shop so that you will know what’s unavailable and how long we expect it may
take to come in.
In the meantime, please be
patient with us and our food growers.
